We’ll continue our review of filling materials that I use and what the pros and cons are.

  • Resin based composite – most common “tooth colored” fillings
    1. Upsides:
      1. The look nicer! We can match these fillings very closely to the shade of your tooth, so that you often cannot even tell that a filling has been there.
      2. They bond to the tooth, this means that less tooth needs to be removed and that if cracks are present it can help stabilize the tooth.
    2. Downsides:
      1. The tooth needs to be dry for them to bond in properly – this can be difficult or impossible to achieve in certain areas of the mouth or parts of the tooth.
